Fall 2016, User Interface
UI / UX / Visual
The sign up process focuses on visual design to draw in the user and add energy to their experience.
The user is asked to follow some of their favorite sports, teams, players and type of plays. By clicking an icon, they can follow subcategories of that selection. The focus of these patterns is to break down loads of options into digestable content.
This alternative following system is more experimental than practical with a wheel to spin to find the sports the user wants. They then click the middle to add sports. Although this interaction may be visually interesting, after exploring the interactions, it makes matters more complicated for the user.
Once the user finishes following their desired sports content, The Reel generates "channels" for them from most popular to playful puns. The user is one click away from finding their new favorite sports clips.
Finding the best solution to filter hundreds of sports was essential in making easily digestible content for the user.
The onboarding process allows the user to follow four categories of interest to break down the type of content. They can follow sports, players, plays and tags. Each category goes a level deeper in specificity.
Once the user follows their favorite sports and players, The Reel customizes "channels" for them.
This includes the latest in sports, their favorite team highlights and favorite players. Similar to a music player, a reel automatically plays through and the user can like or save a clip.
The Live feature allows users to watch real-time clips of the latest games. It puts forth the most exciting moments for the user.
